Dollan Aqua Centre
The Dollan Aqua Centre (referred to locally by its original name, The Dollan Baths) closed for refurbishment on 26th October 2008 and is expected to reopen on the 7th January 2011.
The Dollan was opened in 1968 and was the first Olympic length swimming pool in Scotland (it is now one of 5, the next closest in Tollcross).
It is a commonly held myth in the town that the pool was built a few inches short of the competition-length 50m, but this is not actually true. The pool does not meet the full Olympic standard as it only supports 6 lanes rather than the required 10.
Features
The centre features the main 50m pool with large spectators gallery, a separate kid’s pool, water flumes, sauna, and a state of the art gymnasium. The main pool features a variable-depth floating floor and a boom that is used to split the pool into two separate 25m pools.
Competition
In 2011 the Dollan baths will host the swimming events in the Commonwealth Children's Games. More details can be found here.
Competitive Swimming
The pool is home to the East Kilbride Amateur Swimming Club (EKASC) and is used by the club for training and competitions. Due to the current closure of the baths, EKASC are currently training in number different locations.
Address: Dollan Aqua Centre, Town Centre Park, Brouster Hill, East Kilbride.
